Do you have arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or other issues with your hands and wrists?
I do, and that makes doing some simple tasks really difficult — like opening doorknobs. Especially in the morning when I first wake up.
The orthopedist I see for my hand problems suggested replacing the doorknob with a door latch handle.
But I didn’t want to do that. I thought there should be an easier solution than buying and getting the device installed.
And there is:
Easy to Open Doorknob Grips
I did a little searching online and found the perfect solution to opening a door when my hands hurt in the morning. It’s to cover the doorknob with a silicone grip. The one I bought was this EZ Doorknob Grip, that has protrusions on each side. The product came with two doorknob covers in the box.
The doorknob cover stretches to fit over the doorknob. It’s a bit of a struggle to stretch the grip over the doorknob, but even with my achy fingers I was able to do it myself.
Once it was in place, it made it much easier to grip and open the doorknob.
The protrusions on either side of the grip serve as little levers. So if you can’t turn the doorknob, you can push on it. Pushing on it turns the knob and opens the door. So it functions a little like a latch handle.
Now, I’ll admit these doorknob openers are pretty ugly.
But they’re cheaper and easier to install than a door latch handle.
And they works well.
So, I’ll live with ugly in the few places I need these to help open doors.
